Plein Aire Painters of Chicago - 2021

Anna Cherkashina

Hurray! The PAPC is back,  and as always, there's an exciting new member.

What a dreamy. magical world this ordinary streetcorner has become.

It's not surprising that she graduated from an art school in Russia.

Mary Longe

Five years ago she knocked me over with a very different kind of painting.

The thing is --  Mary is a serial over achiever in everything she does.

Most artists find a happy groove and stick with it.

Mary (and Picasso) are always wondering what they can do different.

She told me that she's been making abstract paintings, and indeed she does appear to have entered the early twentieth century.  Vlaminck comes to mind.

Nancie Mertz

Hah! this is one of the demon-possessed autos

whose chrome grill comes alive as a set of pointed teeth

that scarf down seniors and small children at intersections.

Olga Kornfeld

Most PAPC paintings do a righteous job of putting everything where it should be.

But a few, like the  above, join form and emotion to make something new and compelling.

Don Yang

A sense of perfection that's scary.

Isn't that an artist's studio behind that tilted wall of  glass?

Pat Brutchin

The empty chairs in front of the beckoning black doorway.

It's Covid time in the city.

Stephanie Weidner

So good at making the less-than-mundane
more-than-exciting.
