Clare Briggs

Clare Briggs (1875 - 1930) might be called the most famous artist member of the Palette & Chisel since he is credited with creating the first newspaper comic strip in America, "A. Piker Clerk", a reality-based narrative, begun in 1904, that predicted and reported winners at the race track. It was subsequently recreated by a San Francisco artist as "A. Mutt" and then eventually as the classic "Mutt and Jeff"

Coinciding with the golden years of the Palette and Chisel, he was centered in Chicago between 1900 and 1916.

Tim Leeming

It's good to see Tim getting away from the dingy urban alleys that he loves, and get out into the fresh, clean, big sky country.
