Bo Zhang Drawing Class

20 years after the fall of
the Evil Empire,
Social Realism
is alive and well
in Chicago.

Thanks to Chinese artist
Bo Zhang
who, with Mary Qian serving as interpreter,
is now teaching a drawing class
on Saturdays
at the Palette and Chisel

Bo graduated from the Guangzhou Institute
(just like Zhiwei Tu)
and taught there for several years.

As Mary puts it:

"He told me that when he came to the states, he had the illusion that he is in a free land and can paint truly what he wants, not what the government wants. But the fact is he was asked to paint what the market wants... He doesn't want to do that, and started his own construction/interior design company. Now he wants to paint for full time, and only paint what and how he wants to"

Here's some shots
from a demo
