R. V. Brown: "Eloped By Motor"

From the September 22, 1916, Chicago Tribune.

"Mr. Brown had known Miss Cotton less than a month, but they understood each other thoroughly."

I figure she must have been a model.

So....
*why did they have to elope ?
*Did Miss Cotton's family object to having an artist in the family ?
(Dr. Cotton was Pres. of the Chicago Medical Society)
*how long did the marriage last ?
*did RVB stay a member of the P&C ?
(or did the new wife make him work longer hours at the office ?)

Inquiring minds want to know !

I've always thought people eloped when there was an unplanned pregancy in the picture that would make awkward waiting the socially acceptable time before marriage.

Right?
