Liliane Flaherty Kirby
SNOWY CHICAGO AFTERNOONELEVATED (L) ROAD – WATER TOWER
Look familiar ?
Like -- maybe another winter expedition
by the Plein Air Painters of Chicago ?

Wrigley Building, Tribune TowerWell.... kind of....
only these watercolors were done
many decades ago
by Liliane Kirby,
the winner of our Gold Medal Award in 1977,
who recently celebrated
her 100th birthday.
Rush Street
Queen of the Missions, Santa BarbaraShe grew up in Chicago,
attended the Art Institute and Chicago Academy of Fine Arts,
and like many other leading Chicago artists,
won a purchase award from the Union League Club.
But then,
for some reason
(perhaps the Chicago winters ???)
she moved to the West Coast,
(as many other historic P&C members had done)
and her landscapes turned from frosty
to bright, warm, and sunny.
Santa Barbara WharfYes... she's really good,
and it's rather incredible
that this page is currently
the only place on the internet
where her work can be found.

Let's hope the rest of us
live as long,
and paint as well,
as you have.
