Trip to Yunnan

Nancie King Mertz -

A hundred years ago
P&C members
went on painting expeditions
to the Ozarks and the Smokies.

This April,
several of them joined a trip
to Yunnan Province
in far southwest China,

and then exhibited a few of the results
in Nancie's Clark Street gallery.

...and for unexplainable reasons
these paintings actually feel Chinese to me,
as if they had lived there for many years,
instead of just 4 weeks.

Especially this one,
which might have been done
by Xugu
(Shanghai - 19th C.)

I really liked the Nancie Mertz paintings. They felt like authentic images of China. Her images reminded me of what I saw in the Hunan province and of the local artwork produced there. Thanks for posting those images.

Good lord!

There's another Chris Miller in the blogging world who's interested in art and China. If he also likes to listen to female jazz vocals - we could have real doppelgänger here.

I'm sure we can find more things in common. I was born at very young age in December back during the Kennedy administration and my father's initials are RJM.
