John Adams Spelman II










(1880-1941)
Born in Owatonna, Minnesota,
Spelman moved to Chicago and studied at the Art Institute.

He kept a cabin on the north shore of Lake Superior near Grand Marais,
and followed his friend, Rudolph Ingerle, to the the Great Smoky Mountains
in North Carolina and eastern Tennessee.


His son, John Adams Spelman III, b. 1912,
is also an artist noted for his outdoor scenes.
