Stuart Fullerton’s Portrait Class
Wenyu Jin, "Stuart"
Hah! The student has captured the teacher in his day-job identity as a G-man (Federal prosecutor)
Wenyu Jin
But he also honors his teacher by demonstrating his peculiar aesthetic.
Well - maybe not so peculiar in the French Academy of the 19th Century - but quite peculiar today. He’s not even a sentimental Impressionist like Richard Schmid and his followers.
He goes all the way back to when art was supposed to present probity and moral gravitas.
It’s as if Manet, Picasso, Dekooning, and Warhol never existed.
Mary Qian
And even one of Chicago’s best portraitists has joined the class.
Nina Vidmer
Brandon Garcia
Daniel, the 7-foot political scientist, is an exceptional model
Justina Lukosiunaite
… and both of these artists have captured him.
Simon Cygielski
More of a dynamic flair, but still solid.

And here is some of Stuart’s own work.
It could have hung in a Palette and Chisel show a hundred years ago
(Back on our glory days)
Stuart and his class is a Palette and Chisel success story.
Anchored in the past and as fresh as today.
It’s not surprising that he had attracted such able students.
